Planned & Sustaining Gifts

Planning your gift may provide tax advantages that enable you to provide more support for Lifting Up Westchester’s mission or to protect more future value for you and your family.

Learn What Planned and Sustained Giving Really Is:

As you plan your gift, please know that planned or sustained giving is far more than a transaction, it is…

  • Opportunity… for you who care so deeply for Lifting Up Westchester’s mission and want to continue changing people’s lives now and for your legacy.

  • The Gift of A Lifetime… for you who are using your assets fully today - your financial, personal, and real assets you may be able to make a gift in your will to continue your legacy and still receive income from your investments for the rest of your life.

  • Leadership… for you whose generous decisions and actions have been witnessed by others. Your planned or sustained gift may inspire others to explore how they also can be a resource to support Lifting Up Westchester’s mission.

Design Your Gift

Your financial picture is unique, and so is your planned gift. Planning your gift may provide tax advantages that enable you to provide more support for Lifting Up Westchester or to protect more future value for you and your family. Here are some of the more common gifts that you might consider:

  • Bequest: Make a gift through your will or trust. This can be a fixed dollar amount, a specific asset, or a percentage of your estate. Amounts that are bequest to charity reduces the size of your estate and estate taxes to be paid.

  • Retirement Account: This can be the most heavily taxed asset in many estates. Choosing this account as your gift might allow you to leave your less tax burdened assets to your loved ones.

  • Real Estate: Contributing property when it is no longer needed can be a game changing gift after your lifetime. Your donation is valued at market and you avoid tax on the sale.

  • Charitable Trust: Trusts can achieve multiple goals including providing a generous income, tax benefits and a powerful gift to Lifting Up Westchester.

  • Other: Many other giving opportunities including multiple year giving options might prove ideal for your situation. Sustaining gifts are $50,000 or above paid over a three to five year period.

Action

Estate and asset planning often requires help.

In order to make sure a particular planned gift fits your situation, we suggest that you consult with your professional advisor on how this gift would fit into your plans.

Impact

Planned gifts help to accomplish:

  • Sufficient reserves so we can make strategic and long-term program and capacity investments with confidence.

  • Sustaining funding for some of our most impactful programs most of which receive limited or no government funding:

    • Youth Academic/Mentoring Services

    • College Success and Scholarships

    • Summer Camp

    • Community Central

    • Grace’s Community Kitchen

    • Job Central

We invite you to reach out to discuss your giving interests.

Teach Your Generosity

We teach by demonstrating our values through words and actions. Now that you have planned a legacy or sustaining gift, consider sharing the why of your gift. It may serve to amplify the power of your generosity.

Consider sharing the news of your gift with us and your family. Advance knowledge of your gift helps us prepare for and understand your intentions.

This helps Lifting Up Westchester put your gift to work as quickly and efficiently as possible. It also lets us share our heartfelt gratitude for your generosity and commitment. THANK YOU!
